The Mercy of God by Jason G. Lutz

The Mercy of God by Jason G. Lutz

So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
(‭‭Romans‬ ‭9:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬)
I like to get up early for Bible study, to meditate on the Word of God before the sun comes up.  Of course, being up does not always mean being awake, alert.  It is not uncommon for me to be unable to articulate intelligently about anything I read on any given morning.  It is wonderful that my assurance of relationship with God does not rest upon me.  My confidence is entirely held in the irrevocable Promises of God Himself.
Let me get ahead of the argument.  Being drawn into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ will manifest itself powerfully in every aspect of our lives.  We will desire to be in fellowship with other believers, we will desire to be within the hearing of the Word, we will desire to give more of ourselves for His glory, and the absurdity and futility of the world will grow more and more distasteful to us (many of us could use a cold shower on sports).  We must understand that this comes after He has originated the regeneration of our hearts and the renewing of our minds, that we may serve with joy.
Please understand the richness behind this statement: Jesus Christ saves sinners effectively and completely.  Christ’s work positively brings sinners into a profound and unbreakable relationship with God right now.  We are not destined to a live a life untangling the mysteries of unknowable universal forces, human unreason, and doubtful advice on social media.
Chances are we will not line up each day just right by any standard.  I know that I do not “seize the day” with any regularity, if it is even possible at all.  Shall we cast our hopes and dreams on an unknown god and maybe win the modern spiritual lottery of goat yoga and videos of other people watching videos?  Or shall we go out confident in and obedient to the Author of the Gospel transcending all time?
Grace be with you,

Jason
