Debbie Shadowen has been a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 30 years, singing in the choir, serving on the Finance Committee, the Educational Assistance Committee, and volunteering with the youth group.
“It seems like I have always worked with children in some capacity. I have taught public school, Sunday School, and Bible School. I have taught at church camp and children’s rallies. Taking over the children’s work at Emmanuel was the next step and then all my children grew into youth, and I just decided I needed to go with them. I love teaching kids (of all ages) about Jesus.”
Debbie has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Alderson-Broaddus College and a master’s degree in school counseling from Marshall University. She is married to Dave Shadowen and has a daughter, Katie Adams, and a bonus daughter Sarah Shadowen. She also has a new grandson that she likes to brag about a lot.
Her current favorite bible verse is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
