Light Affliction by Jason G Lutz

Light Affliction by Jason G Lutz

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
(II Corinthians 4:18 NKJV)

I think it wise for a Christian to abstain from over consideration in assigning reasons and causes to the events that happen to us. Notice that I typed over consideration. Certainly if we can pin point an exact cause of a trial or hardship in our own choices and we have the power to change it… we should do so. But as we know all to well, some trials and hardships do not come to us through bad choices. Sometimes these things just happen.

I don’t want to suggest that God does not have a plan. He certainly has the Master Plan written for the Salvation of our souls. He certainly is in command of His Kingdom and the armies of hell shall not prevail. Yet, I just don’t think we are able to reason and attach a particular meaning to every tragedy. Sin and evil are the absence of God, thereby they are the absence of Order. As long as people chose sin and evil, chaos will have its day all around us. Thanks be to our God that the world has any order at all. A small study in ancient history can show just how blessed we are to live the New Testament era.

Let me make the central point we have be working toward: perhaps the blessed lesson in every hardship is that salvation and our eternal redemption is far superior to anything on this earth? Perhaps in Christ’s divine wisdom He knew that by refusing to become King and feed the masses continually He was actually saving them from themselves lest they neglect this Eternal Weight of Glory?

Answering these questions in the affirmative takes trust. It takes trust to say that no matter what happens, and even worse what happens to those who we care about, God is working for our Salvation and that outweighs all things.
