I am quite confident that each of you has at least one, most likely a few, hot button issue. An issue that simply get one’s blood boiling. I use the term issue in a very broad sense, we can include political/social concern, the actions or words of others, or common occurrences. I have more than my fair share, I am not much for either moderation or a stoical approach. Yet, Scripture does warn us of a danger that lies behind all of this.
I think we we cross a line when we move from “this makes me angry” to “I want to see that person or group of people suffer”.
“Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, ” VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.”
(Romans 12:19 NASB)
I am sure that all of us can have great conversations about justice and injustice. I am sure that we could have a lengthy debate around ideas concerning righteous anger. Is the term a contradiction? Not for me to say.
What I do want to say is that wishing to see others fail, suffer, or get what they deserve seems the polar opposite of Grace. In all that we do may we never forget:
“In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.””
(Luke 15:10 NASB)
Grace be with you,
