1st Corinthians 2:2 by Jason G. Lutz

I did everything right and yet things did not work out. It is a frustrating place to be. I experienced this feeling with a bang this past weekend. My training plan was from a professional and everybody thought it would work; I followed it to completion. Beyond that I did all the little things right; as far as extra strength training, food, and sleep. Yet, I still turned in my slowest marathon time by 30 minutes. I did everything right, yet everything went wrong.

I understand fully that I am stretching my hobby and attempting to apply it to the existential. But I have to believe that each of you has experienced something similar. Perhaps a work assignment in which everything was done to perfection, but the project never saw the light of day or simply did no work as expected. We can discuss relationships, we can discuss health, we can discuss a number of things.

This is something in which human philosophy fails us terribly, if we would just follow this path or this guru we will have rich lives. And just as dangerous is the idea that if we seek to live with authenticity and by our own code we will truly live. Yet where are we when the path falters, the guru is found wrong, or our authenticity is shown to be merely paper thin mask?

For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified (1st Corinthians 2:2)

The Good News a follower of Christ carries is not a program of righteousness, it is the reality that Christ has conquered death. A Christian Life is not lived as unique or ahead of the curve, it is lived in close proximity to our Creator. Biblical wisdom is not about having the answers, it is about humility and understanding the struggle of others. Our witness is not our blessings, it is His power shown through our weakness. And above all, perhaps a few of us are called to lead; but all of us are called to serve.
